As a part of our commitment to helping improve quality of life in our community, New River Light & Power awards scholarships to local graduating high school seniors in Watauga County, as well as contributes to the general scholarship fund at Appalachian State University.
New River Light & Power Scholarship
Supporting Mountaineers from Watauga County.
All graduating high school seniors in Watauga County who have been accepted to Appalachian State University are eligible for the New River Light & Power Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to approximately five students each year.
The New River Light and Power Scholarship is renewable for up to eight consecutive semesters or four years of undergraduate work, excluding summer sessions. A minimum GPA requirement must be met to qualify for renewal.

App State General Scholarship Fund
New River Light & Power Company reserves approximately $750,000 each year for the general scholarship fund at Appalachian State University. This contribution goes to support the Chancellor's Scholarship and other scholarships awarded in the name of the university.
