Appalachian State University's New River Light and Power earns the Smart Energy Provider (SEP) designation from the American Public Power Association
New River Light and Power (NRLP) was awarded the SEP designation during the American Public Power Association's annual Customer Connections Conference on October 28, 2024 in Louisville, Kentucky. The utility was awarded the SEP designation for demonstrating commitment to and proficiency in energy efficiency, distributed generation and environmental initiatives that support the goal of providing safe, reliable, low-cost and sustainable electric service.
The SEP designation lasts for three years (December 1, 2024 to November 30, 2027) and recognizes public power utilities for demonstrating leading practices in four key disciplines:
- smart energy program structure
- energy efficiency and distributed energy programs
- environmental and sustainability initiatives
- the customer experience
NRLP was one of over 100 utilities nationwide to earn the SEP designation in 2024.
