Public Power Gives Back
At New River Light and Power, serving our community goes beyond providing reliable electric service. As a public power utility, we are locally focused and committed to supporting the people, organizations and communities we serve.
Through volunteerism, workforce development, education and community partnerships, NRLP employees work throughout the year to help make the High Country stronger.
Volunteer Initiative: Public Power Month of Giving
Each June, NRLP participates in Public Power Month of Giving, a national initiative among public power utilities focused on strengthening the communities we serve.
While some utilities host a single Day of Giving, NRLP extends this effort throughout the entire month to allow broader employee participation, support multiple community partners and maximize overall impact in our community.
Join us in giving back!
- Community members can join forces to help neighbors in need by donating to the Good Neighbor Round Up Program. This initiative, in partnership with Hospitality House, supports the WeCAN Crisis Assistance Program. NRLP customers can choose to round up monthly bills or donate a flat amount each month or donate a flat amount once. Not a customer? No problem! We can take donations for this program. Email nrlp-csr@appstate.edu or call 828-264-3671 to learn more.
- Each June, we partner with the Watauga Humane Society to sponsor a donation and supply drive. Every little bit helps! Visit their Wishlist page to see the most pressing needs. Stop by our office to drop off supplies at 146 Faculty Street Ext. or purchase straight from their wishlist. Donations can be sent to the WHS through their online form.
- Get in on the spirit and find a local nonprofit to support and volunteer your time. With over 200 nonprofits in Boone, there is sure to be a cause to power your passion!
